At District Family Clinics, we’re excited to share that the Shingrix vaccine for shingles is now available with subsidies, making protection more affordable for our patients.

What is Shingrix?

Shingrix is a modern, non-live vaccine designed to protect against shingles, a painful skin rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. It offers long-lasting and highly effective protection, especially in adults aged 50 and above.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

  • Adults Aged 50 and Older (regardless of chickenpox history)

  • Individuals who have had shingles before (to reduce recurrence risk)

  • Those previously vaccinated with older shingles vaccines (e.g., Zostavax)

  • Individuals aged 18 years and older with chronic medical conditions like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic kidney disease. However, individuals should always consult their doctors to determine the vaccine is appropriate for you

Why Vaccinate Against Shingles?

Shingles can cause weeks of severe pain and sometimes lead to long-term nerve damage (post-herpetic neuralgia). With over 90% protection demonstrated in adults, Shingrix is one of the most effective ways to safeguard your health.

Shingles vaccines has also been shown to lower the risk of heart disease.
